Manage matter and transaction tags

Tags are colored labels shared across the workspace. There are two separate kinds:

  • Matter tags label matters, for example Trust, Probate, or Complex. Use them to filter the matters list.
  • Transaction tags label transactions, for example Taxable, Distribution, or Recurring. The Tagged Transactions report groups transactions by these tags.

Every member of the workspace can create and manage tags.

Create a tag

  1. Go to Workspace Settings, then Tags.
  2. Under Matter Tags or Transaction Tags, click Add Tag.
  3. Enter a Tag Name and choose a Color. Preview shows how the tag will look.
  4. Click Create Tag.

Tag names must be unique within each kind. You can also create tags on the fly, as described below.

Edit, reorder, or delete a tag

  • Click a tag's edit button to change its name or color, then click Save Changes.
  • Drag a tag by its handle to change its position in the list.
  • Click a tag's delete button, then Delete, to remove it. Deleting a tag removes it from every matter or transaction that has it. The matters and transactions themselves stay.

Tag a matter

  • In the Create Matter or Edit Matter form, click tags under Tags to select or clear them.
  • Click Add Tag in that form to create a new matter tag and select it right away.
  • The matter's tags show next to its name on the matter page and in the matters list.

On the matters list, click tags next to Tags to show only matters that have every selected tag. See Find, edit, close, and delete matters.

Tag a transaction

  • In a ledger's add or edit row, use the Tags column to pick transaction tags.
  • Choose Create New Tag in that dropdown, type a name, and press Enter to create a tag and add it to the row.
  • Import with AI suggestions have the same Tags column.

To see tagged transactions together, run the Tagged Transactions report. See Run a report.
